COMMUNITY CARAVAN

Lots and lots and lots of happenings at Cafe Campesino Americus and Atlanta and at Sweetwater:

Americus
August 20th – A big “THANK YOU” to all who came out for the 2nd annniversary of our coffee house.  We enjoyed a potluck meal and friendly atmosphere for several hours that night.  Our customers and supporters continue to remind us how fortunate we are to be able to do what we do.  (Let’s do it again next year!)

August 21st – A delegation from Myoshi City, Japan visited Americus and Sumter Co. for several days of touring our area.  They stopped by the coffee house & roastery for a tour as well as breakfast.  We welcomed them and look forward to next year’s visit as part of the “sister cities” program that Americus and Myoshi City participate in.

Sept. 11th – Join us at the coffee house in Americus between 9am and 2pm for “CapPOOCHino Day”, a fundraiser for our Sumter Humane Society. There will be a dog wash, doggie contests with prizes (Prettiest Pup, Dog-Owner Look Alike, Biggest Dog, Tiniest Dog, and more), a Retriever Raffle ($1 per ticket) for great gift baskets donated by local supporters, and Cafe Campesino will be donating 10% of sales that day to the shelter and their good work. Our own Rebecca Young, a board member of SHS, has been hard at work to organize the event and we’re expecting a big turnout including a tour group of 25 or so folks that will be stopping in for a tour as well as lunch.  Volunteers for the dog wash are welcome.  We hope to see you there.

October 15-17: Cafe Campesino will be serving Coffee to riders in Tifton, GA for this year’s Bikefest. More information atwww.BRAG.org

Gainesville, FL
Hello to all from Sweetwater Organic Coffee in sunny and a bit cooler Gainesville, Florida!

August was a scorcher and roasting was in top form with business as usual.  Kyle Caskey, son of Jim Caskey-Sweetwater’s roaster, has joined the Sweetwater family as our Farmers Market representative.  As a junior in high school and being dual-enrolled at the local college he has his hands full but has done well with adjusting to the new schedule as well as learning the trade.  We welcome Kyle to Sweetwater.

On August 20th, an entourage of Sweetwater employees as well as Tina’s mom, Sandra Davis, traveled to Americus to share in the festivities at Cafe Campesino’s 2nd Anniversary of the Coffee House!  With much laughter, plenty of coffee, great food, and wonderful friends a superb time was had by all.  *note: always check with the locals regarding lodging…but that’s another story in itself…

August was a rough month for our honorary roaster, Leathem, as he came down with pneumonia quite unexpectedly and couldn’t make the trip with us.  Leathem is the son of Amanda Adkins-Manager of Sweetwater Organic Coffee.  Happy news is that he is well on his way back to being his curious 20-month old self.

September is upon us and with it comes football season!  Sweetwater and Cafe Campesino, in keeping with the football spirit, have thrown down a  little wager. It’s the
Battle of the Bags!!!!!  OrangeBlue for the Gators and Black &Red for the Bulldogs!  Check out the websites for further updates and make sure you get your orders in! Support your favorite team and your local roasters!!!!!

Rusty, Cafe Campesino’s roaster, came to visit Sweetwater for the day!   Although the temperatures run neck and neck, a change of scenery is always a great way to beat the heat!  Sweetwater loves visitors!!!!

Our friends at Harvest of Hope Foundation will be hosting a Charity Fundraiser to benefit area migrant workers on Friday, Oct 1 from 6pm-9pm.

Atlanta
Last month, Cafe Campesino received a visit from David Zelski, Series Producer/Host for GPB television’s Georgia Travelerprogram, and his crew extraordinaire, for a day of filming, fun, and coffee. Georgia Traveler will be featuring Cafe Campesino sometime around Thanksgiving in a program they are running about GA businesses that try to give back. A week after their visit to Americus, David and crew paid a visit to Cafe Campesino at Sweet Auburn Curb Market to meet with and film our coffee house crew there. Below are two photos of their visit to the Atlanta coffee house – one with our dynamo marketing and promotions manager and barista Almeta Tuloss and another with our dynamo operations manager and barista Angelica Buono. Oh, we’re a photogenic crowd! But seriously, we would like to thank David and the rest of the GPB crew for what turned out to be a merry occasion laden with excessive coffee consumption and laughter to boot!

Tuesday, Aug. 23: Café Campesino at Sweet Auburn was featured alongside other Sweet Auburn Curb Market vendors in Georgia State University’s student newspaper, “The Signal.”
Friday, Aug. 27: Café Campesino at Sweet Auburn launched its “Back to School” special for Georgia State University students. Students get 10 percent off for the fall semester. The coffee shop also welcomed students for the Atlanta’s Urban Picnic. In addition to hosting Urban Picnics at lunchtime on the final Fridays of the month, the Sweet Auburn Curb Market is also hosting them in the evenings on second Thursdays. Urban Picnics bring together the Sweet Auburn Curb Market’s eclectic group of food vendors with Street Food Vendors for an outdoor, festival-like atmosphere- good food and good fun. Come on out.
