Introduction: It’s All About Community

Written by Cafe Campesino on Oct 1, 2006 in Introduction, NEWSLETTER |

We’re revving up anew this fall to get out and spread the word about Fair Trade and to act on our belief that Fair Trade is not only about building community with farmers in the coffee producing lands, but also about embracing an ideal of doing business fairly, starting in our own communities. So, as we head towards the holidays, and while we hope that our supporters will let folks know about Café Campesino, we also hope that everyone will take action individually to share the Fair Trade message with family, friends and neighbors… at work, school, a place of worship or wherever the opportunity arises! From giving Café Campesino coffee, teas or yerba mate as holiday gifts to organizing a Fair Trade fundraising project, it all starts with a commitment to community. Together, we can truly make a difference!

In this month’s Fair Grounds, we introduce our own fundraising effort — the Santa Anita Relief Fund — to help the good folks of southwest Guatemala’s Santa Anita community bring in this year’s harvest. We also showcase the U.S. premiere of the multimedia theater work Corazón Abriendo in Atlanta next month (and offer you a chance to win tickets to the event). And we’ve got a Community Caravan update and a new recipe, making this a pretty full and interesting issue. Settle back with a big ol’ mug of Café Campesino and enjoy!
