Tribute to Our Friend & Inspiration: Millard Fuller

It is with heavy heart that we commence this issue of Fair Grounds by noting the passing of Millard Fuller. Millard was not only the founder of Habitat For Humanity, The Fuller Center For Housing, and a humble, gentle and inspiring soul who resurrected Koinonia Farms in a time of need, but he was our friend, someone inextricably linked to the birth of our own Café Campesino and, ultimately, Cooperative Coffees. Indeed, Bill Harris started this business while on a Habitat For Humanity Global Village trip in Guatemala in 1997. We express our comfort and prayers to Millard’s family and friends, who exist worldwide for no apparent accident; he was that special a person.

In a spirit of tribute to our friend and brother Millard Fuller, one of the most faithful servants we have known, we press onward to bring you the latest from our recent and upcoming days in the world of fair trade, organic coffee knowing that together we can make a difference.  We know that he is watching, expecting all of us to move on and get back to work… so, let’s get rolling.  In this issue, we feature Maya Vinic in our Producer Spotlight and offer a fine Mexico Chiapas Full City Roast as this month’s Newsletter Special. We include a tempting Valentine’s Day recipe and some great quotes on love. Also in this edition, we feature our regular Community Caravan, in which we highlight a number of interesting goings-on, including Café Campesino recognition as the Americus-Sumter County Chamber’s Small Business of the Year (2008)  So, top off your mug with your favorite Café Campesino java and read on.
